For those of us who used to live and work in Manhattan, especially as first or second jobbers, a large chunk of our salaries went towards accommodation rentals. It’s so expensive. Yet to live and work in the world’s most vibrant city was a lifetime luxury. But this may about to change (somewhat)!
The pandemic and remote working trend, which has become mainstream in the US, is causing a plunge in the occupancy of high-rise offices. Developers in New York City are turning their increasingly empty offices into apartments and condos. Such is welcomed by people work in the city but have to commute for a long period to a distant home as more affordable residents in Manhattan looms.
My first reaction in all of these is ‘where will be the windows’ in the building conversion? The skylines of Manhattan offices have no windows unlike like high-rise residences. Some developers are skirting this challenge by carving an interior room and calling it a ‘home office”.
Anything is worth living in the Big Apple!
