No other species on Earth experiences the sheer range of emotions and actions a human does. Fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, crustaceans, arachnids, and all mammals, with the exception of human beings, act and behave according to certain situations in very predictable ways.

Humans, through the years, have witnessed leaps of imagination in thought and conduct that have exceeded their wildest dreams. Throughout history, we have seen the kindest of beings as well as the meanest. We have witnessed acts of compassion that can easily brings tears to our eyes and also acts of such cruelty that even a reference to them gives us chills of disbelief. 

But the great majority of us are the “in-between”, isn’t it so? And the in-between is sometimes a risky place to be. Without certain tools, we could lean either way, it seems. We created rules and regulations that tend to work on most occasions, but not always. We have intellectual doctrines that seem to help, but not at all times. And on the few occasions we lean towards the gray, it has created unnecessary mishaps and considerable suffering, isn’t that so?Our happiness can easily be overshadowed if we lean towards the gray side too often. 

Simple tools we were actually born with can strength our postures and guide us in the right direction only if we investigate and practise using them. Instead, we have accumulated and consume a large number of accessories that do not guide us anywhere. 

To be able to distinguish the essential utensils we need in life from the futile accessories is, therefore, a very crucial judgement for our happiness and joy.
