"AI’s Star Trek frontier"
In "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," Captain Kirk and Spock beamed down back in time to San Francisco in search of a humpback whale, which could save 23rd century Earth. Gillian, a marine biologist, jokingly asked them if in the two-century ahead they use money. Kirk replied: ”We don’t”.
Welcome to an endgame scenario as AI (Artificial Intelligence) gains increasing dominance in our lives. Things are not quite moneyless as yet, but they are becoming increasingly possible, as AI wields its power on knowledge, manufacturing, agriculture and food.
If you all recall how the Google co-founders turned the world upside down overnight with the free-of-charge model for search and map – the AI’s moneyless world may just be around the corner.
So, what is left in the world of money? Well, efforts will be on the search for minerals if science fictions such as Alien, Red Mars, Avatar, Total Recall and alike prove to deliver a prophecy.
What then is left for most of us not working for mineral exploration and production companies? A host of questions await the future of humanity.
Now in the 21st century, there still a gold rush on AI related enterprises whether it is the semi-conductors, giant social media companies, tech specialist firms. The rest of us play on as a pessimist or an optimist of what is coming.
Humours and wild imaginations may well then be the modes going forward.
And we can thank Star Trek for that.
And telling, in another Star Trek IV scene was when Kirk and Spock were trying to board a bus in San Francisco: the driver asked for the fare, Kirk, confused and replied, "What does it mean, exact change?"
For a 23rd century definition, ask AI!
